The Ministry of Climate Change has finalized a comprehensive plan for Pakistan’s participation in ‘COP30’ with a strong focus on securing “$50 to $60 billion per year” in climate financing.
According to”*Dawn News”, officials from the Ministry confirmed that Pakistan’s agenda at COP30 will center around climate finance. The country will formally present its demand for an annual allocation between $50 and $60 billion to support climate resilience, adaptation, and green development.
At COP30, Pakistan will showcase projects from all four provinces, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Key initiatives will include climate-smart agriculture, glacier protection, and water recharge systems. The Ministry of Climate Change will provide both administrative and technical support to the provinces in preparing these projects.
Officials emphasized that” climate financing” has been designated as Pakistan’s core agenda item for the upcoming global climate summit.
So far, Pakistan has already received around $500 million under various climate finance programs. However, according to a World Bank report, the country will require an estimated $348 billion by 2030 to combat environmental risks and strengthen its climate resilience effectively.
At COP30, Pakistan intends to call on the international community for concrete, sustainable financial commitments to address the escalating climate crisis and safeguard vulnerable ecosystems.
